TESLA WITH NEW PAYMENT METHODS
Tesla, the electric car company, has begun accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment,
according to a new tweet from CEO Elon Musk. With this official announcement, Tesla
becomes the first major automaker to accept bitcoin as payment for its goods.
In a tweet, Musk said, "You can now buy a Tesla with Bitcoin."
Musk also stated that the Bitcoins paid to Tesla would not be converted to fiat currency.
"Tesla is running Bitcoin nodes directly using only internal and open-source software," he
said.
Elon Musk, the company's CEO, also stated that the 'Pay by Bitcoin' feature would be
accessible outside of the United States by the end of 2021.
Tesla purchased $1.5 billion worth of bitcoin in February. The firm said it purchased bitcoin
for "more versatility to further diversify and optimize returns on our cash" in a filing with the
US Securities and Exchange Commission.
Tesla also stated that "subject to applicable rules and initially on a limited basis," it would
begin accepting bitcoin payments in exchange for its goods.
